Safety Tips
For Children
- Teach your children when lost or in trouble to look for a mother with children to ask for help.
- Teach your child to recognize employees of businesses to ask for help.
- Avoid putting bumper stickers with your child's name on your car. If a predator calls your
child by name, your child is more likely to be trusting.
- Create a password that only you and your child know.
- Teach your children that even if a stranger knows their name, not to go with them willingly. Tell them that in any situation where you will send someone they do not know to come for them, other than police, who should have a badge, the stranger will know the password.
- When you know you will be in a large crowd, dress the family alike so that it is easier to find family members.
- Teach your child that if someone has grabbed them to scream "This is not my mother/father!"
- Teach your child to never open the door to anyone they do not know when they are home alone.
- Always have a current picture of your child.

For Women
- When walking to your car or house, always have your keys ready.
Always lock your car doors even if you will only be away from it for a short time.
Predators can wait for just such an opportunity to slip inside your car.
- Never get into a car at gunpoint or knife point. You have a much better chance of escaping unscathed in a public area than by giving your attacker his choice of secluded areas. Remember that the situation will NEVER improve at the second location!
- If feeling uncomfortable with a situation, pull out your cell phone and either make a phone call or just pretend to be talking.
